Since last posting my question about my Longbottom family line I have had a ged com sent to me by one of my sisters and I did some searching through my files and found two envelopes full of family group sheets, pedigree charts, documents, and other notes that I had been given by my father and my sister several years ago but had never found time to enter into my computer program. I also did a bit of additional checking to varify some of the info found.
As with most genealogical research, the more I found the more questions came up.
Here is some of what I discovered:
William Chambers Longbottom b. 1870 parents are David Daniel Longbottom b. 1846 East Retford, Yorkshire, England and Betsy (or Elizabeth) Chambers b. 1851 West Retford, Yorkshire, England.
William C. had two brothers: Reuban (or Rhuban) Longbottom b. abt 1872 and Jack (likely John) Longbottom b. abt 1874.
Jack was a builder; Jack had his own building company and lived in Woodhouse, Sheffield, Yorks, Eng. Jack died abt 1939 or 1940 per nephew, Albert Longbottom.
Reuban worked in coal mines in Clowne, Derbyshire, Eng. Reuban died at Clowne Near Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England after his brother Jack, who died after brother William, who died abt 1937 - per Albert Longbotttom, nephew of Reuban.
William Chambers Longbottom and Elizabeth Ann Colton had the following children:
David Daniel Longbottom 2 who never married and died age 25
Edith Maud Longbottom b. 4 Feb 1898 d. Retford, Notts, Eng. Edith also never married and d. 1970-1979 at Barnsley, Yorks, Eng.
Walter John Longbottom b. 16 Nov 1900 Retford, Notts, Eng. d. Mar 1986 Retford, Notts, Eng. Walter John marr Dorothy (Dot) Longbottom (his cousin) at Woodhouse, Sheffield, Yorks, Eng.
Constance Amelia Longbottom b. 22 Nov 1904 Retford, Notts, Eng. Constance marr. Norman Read.
Charles Henry Longbottom b. abt 1907 marr. Nellie Beedham they had no children.
Albert Edward Longbottom b 2 Dec 1911 East Retford, Notts, Eng. d. 8 Jul 1998 Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Albert was married 3 times and had a total of six children. Albert was a baker by trade and served as a cook in the RAF during WWII.
Ellen Goldsmith Longbottom b. 13 Feb 1914/1915 Sheffield, Yorks, Eng. marr. John Malkin
David Daniel Longbottom's parents are Uriah Longbottom b 1794 Alpine, Yorkshire, Eng. and Mary (Hempsell, Hempsoll, or Hempsall).
Elizabeth Ann Colton's parents are Walter Colton b. abt 1850/1851 Retford, Notts, Eng. and Amelia Saul (?) b. abt 1852 Retford, Notts, Eng.
Walter Colton and Amelia's children are:
Elizabeth Ann Colton
Sarah J. Colton b. abt 1875
Walter Colton Jr. b. abt 1877
Tom Colton b. abt 1879
If anyone can add to the information I have please let me know.
I am still looking for more information on the Longbottom line and all related lines.
I have more on some of the living family but will not publish it as long as I believe they may be living. Any new information given to me on living individuals will not be published without their express consent and will only be retained in private family files.
GENEALOGY SHARING AND DISCUSSION BLOG - Welcome. Please look over the surname lists, maybe we have common ancestors we can share notes on.

Free Obituaries Online
I would just like to mention one of the links I've included in my list of Great Family History Links. Free Obituaries Online or Free Obits Online is a website I have been using for quite a few years to access local obituaries as well as to link to obits in many parts of the world, both current and archived. I have found it very valuable in both family history research and in just keeping up on people I know who have passed on before me.
The website is managed by Linda MacKinnon who I would say has provided a great source of information for many of us. It is a big undertaking and I believe she deserves much thanks for putting this website together and keeping it up-to-date.
Since I have found her site very valuable I asked her permission to put a link on my blog.
Visit her site and see if it can help you in your research.

The other Boleyn sister, My 13th Great Grandmother
As many who research genealogy know when you get back to your 13th great grandparents there are quite a few of them. Lets just say there are quite a few thousand of them. One of those in our family is Mary Boleyn along with her husband William Carey.
Mary was the Other Boleyn Girl portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in the 2008 movie. Although Mary was supposed to be the prettier of the Boleyn sisters I am quite sure Scarlett portrayed her beauty adequately.
Having a GGM who was around the courts of King Henry VIII is interesting even though the stories about her may have been dramatized for the sake of making good movies and stories. Rumors do tend to grow.
Many of us have royal lines at some point in our history and our family is no different. Our branches and twigs weave through many royal families as well as many more common lines.
If you are interested in searching your family tree and seeing where your roots lead I urge you to find out what you can and then ask as many living relatives as possible for more. Then ask those who are also searching, visit some of the links on genealogy sites and blogs.
Join websites such as www.new.FamilySearch.org (use the link or type exactly using the 'dot' between new and Family)
Have fun, learn a lot and you will want to find out more.

How did you find this blog
Since I have had trouble googling my own blog I'm interested in knowing how and where those of you who are following my blog managed to find me?
I am glad to have some followers and hope that those who are searching the same ancestral lines and branches will ask questions about some of the names so that I can get an idea of interest and posts to put up.

Name of this blog
This Blog received it's name: "Doctors, Preachers, Pioneers, Statesmen, & Folk" from the fact that our family history consists of numerous doctors, reverends and church leaders, pioneers, political and government leaders, noblemen and women, and a lot of just plain folk. For this reason the blog title came to me as I pondered what to call my blog.
This blog was created after taking part in a local genealogy conference and leaning about blogging.
I decided to create a blog to share family history facts and stories with family members both near and far and to provide a platform through which others could share their stories about members of the same families.
It is my hope that through sharing we might be able to help each other in our family history research.
Some of my family lines have been traced back as far as 27 plus generations while others are less productive only being able to be traced 3,4, or 8 generations. Many seem to have dropped out of the sky at some point with nothing to be found before a certain ancestor. This is where I believe we can help each other to find the seemingly missing ancestors.

Introduction
Hello fellow genealogists;
I am new at this blog thing so please bear with me. This Blog is set up to share and discuss my family's genealogy and hopefully help those searching the same lines.
In my family we are lucky to have many genealogists who have done a great deal of research and work on many of our lines. One of them has devoted thousands of hours to documenting, researching, and sharing family histories, photos, and research notes with family members. Thanks Joy.
Others have also contributed much as well and some have their own websites.
This Blog is not to distract from any of their efforts and valuable work, but to recognize it and give credit to this very valuable resource without which I would still be digging up little scraps of paper with limited information.
My thanks goes to all who have contributed and to those who are also researching the same lines and will hopefully contribute further.
May we be able to help each other.
I have attempted to protect the names of those who do not wish to have their names published and of the living.
All posts will be monitored for appropriateness.
Commercial ads will not be permitted.
As this blog progresses links may be added to selected related websites.
Surnames in our family history are in two lists.
